Hey there, lovely reader!
I hope this post finds you feeling happy and fulfilled. Today, I want to talk to you about a topic that’s close to my heart and something that I believe is really important for us all to understand. We’re going to talk about why you shouldn’t identify your sense of self with your ego.
Now, I know what you might be thinking – “what on earth is she talking about?” But don’t worry, I’m going to break it down for you in a way that’s easy to understand.
First of all, let’s define what we mean by “ego.” The ego is the part of us that’s concerned with our own self-image, our status, and how we appear to others. It’s the voice in our head that tells us we’re not good enough, that we need to be better, and that we need to be loved and accepted by others. Literally it’s the part of the brain that evolved to help up survive in the wild.
So what does that have to do with your sense of self and why should you care I know. . . just bear with me a sec.
Here’s the thing – your ego is not who you truly are. Your sense of self is so much more than that. It’s the essence of who you are, beyond your thoughts and feelings. It’s your unique combination of values, experiences that make you, well, you! And furthermore, the real you isn’t even connected to this whole body and personality anyway.
Remember the movie Avatar? Where the paralyzed Marine has his consciousness downloaded and put into a giant blue alien. Wellllll. . . .that’s pretty much you and me LOL. We are SPIRIT. Essentially we are AWARENESS, we are consciousness itself. And that awareness is having an experience playing a role in the game of life. Mine just happens to be playing the role of Tonya right now. But Tonya is not who I TRULY AM. Who I truly am is so so much more magnificent that just a little old body and personality. I AM THE UNIVERSE. And so are you!
When we identify our sense of self with our ego, we’re basing our sense of self-worth on external factors like our appearance, our achievements, and what others think of us. This can lead to a never-ending cycle of trying to prove ourselves to others and constantly seeking validation. Literally the ego’s job is to keep you believing you are separate from everything and everyone around you. And therefore it sees everything outside itself as a potential threat. So you get one of only two options with the ego. Feel guilt (you are bad) or feel pride (I’m better than you).
But the truth is, you are enough just as you are. Your worth is not determined by your appearance, your accomplishments, or what others think of you. Your worth is inherent and cannot be taken away by anyone or anything. Why? BECAUSE YOU ARE THE UNIVERSE EXPERIENCING ITSELF! (You’re literally God looking at itself through the lens of your eyes)
So, what can you do to break free from this cycle and start experiencing true self-acceptance and peace? Start by focusing on the things that are truly important to you and let go of the things that don’t matter. Spend time getting to know yourself, your values, and what truly brings you joy and fulfillment. And most importantly, practice self-compassion and be kind to yourself.
In conclusion, I hope this post has helped you understand why you shouldn’t identify your sense of self with your ego. Recognizing this fact is imperative to spiritual growth, awakening and ascension. Remember, you are so much more than that. You are unique, you are worthy, and you are loved. You are the great I AM.
Take care and stay fabulous!
